Folheando uma revista no começo da semana encontrei obras incríveis de um escultor chamado Kevin Francis Gray e não consegui tirá-las da cabeça. A mistura contrastante de sentimentos presente em suas obras foi o que me fez pesquisar a respeito e acabar trazendo aqui pra mostrar à vocês.

Nascido na Irlanda do norte, ele cresceu em meio a guerra e um cenário de conflitos entre os separatistas católicos e os protestantes leais, o que acabou interferindo indiretamente no seu trabalho. O artista de 42 anos, representado pela Pace Gallery, gosta de retratar o lado amargo e transgressor da alma humana. Após passar por famosas instituições de ensino em Dublin, Chicago e Londres, transitou entre os estilos gótico e neoclássico, surpreendendo não só pela beleza estética como pelos temas abordados em suas obras, que carregam uma tensão entre o passado e o presente. 

Usando materiais como fibra de vidro, bronze, mármore e gesso, Gray diz inspirar-se em pessoas dos mais diversos tipos, sejam viciados em drogas, bailarinos, amigos ou pessoas com quem esbarra na rua. Seu trabalho tem fortes características do período clássico, mas o conteúdo é composto por elementos contemporâneos. Seu representante define suas obras como "uma complexa relação entre o abstrato e a figuração"

Flipping through a magazine earlier this week, I found incredible works of a sculptor named Kevin Francis Gray and could not get them out of my head. The contrasting mix of feelings present in his works was what made me researching it and end up bringing here to show to you.
 

Born in Northern Ireland, he grew up surrounded by conflicts between Catholics and loyal Protestant separatists, which ended indirectly interfering in his art. The sculptor of 42 years, represented by Pace Gallery, likes to portray the bitter and oppositional side of the human soul. After studying in famous educational institutions in Dublin, Chicago and London, the artist plays between the Gothic and neoclassical styles, surprising not only for aesthetic beauty as the themes addressed in his works, which carry a tension between the past and the present.

 Using materials like fiberglass, bronze, marble and plaster, Gray says that he gets inspired by many different types of people, no matter if they are addicted to drugs, dancers, friends or individuals who stumbles across the street. His work has strong characteristics of the classical period, but the content is composed of contemporary elements. His representative defines his works as "a complex relationship between the abstract and the figurative"
